I’m thrilled to be back cooking after taking a break to have my son, Zion. He was born July 18th and he is a joy. He loves to play on the kitchen floor while I cook, his favorite toy is a set of measuring cups..of course! I’m getting ready for Passover by cleaning house and working on some new recipes. Check out my favorite Passover granola. We continue to make it all holiday long.

Would you like to bring The Kosher Girl to your community. I’m available this spring for personal cooking lessons or new cooking demonstrations including Healthy Weeknight Dinners, Kid-Friendly Cuisine, Spice Up Your Shabbat Table and more.

It’s that time of year again where we spend hours upon hours planning our holiday meals looking for something new and exciting to add to our table. I just got back from Cleveland, Ohio where I taught a fun class for the Sisterhood of B’nai Jeshurun. I demonstrated “Delightful Dishes for the Holiday Season.” This class gave the members of the Sisterhood different ideas for their break fast meal as well as parve dishes that will be a nice addition to any holiday menu. I’ve posted a few of the recipes from the class including Chocolate Bread Pudding with Cinnamon Rum Sauce, Sauteed Leek and Fig Salad and Quinoa Cakes. I’ve also posted some of my holiday favorites including my Traditional Chicken Soup, Squash Apple Bake, Pomegranate Fig Stewed Chicken, Jeweled Rice, Roasted Brussel Sprouts, and Green Beans Marsala. And don’t forget – You can bring The Kosher Girl to your community for a fabulous and fun cooking demonstration. Just send me an email and we’ll set something up.

I haven’t updated the Kosher Korner in a while because I have been so busy with the opening of Mamash Restaurant. Mamash is a new, Asian fusion, find dining restaurant on the “Pico Strip” of Los Angeles. I’ve helped them get up and running which has been a long time coming. I’m happy to report that the restaurant is doing very well. They are busy nearly every night. My favorite dishes are the Jicama Avocado Eggrolls, Duck Shumai, Mamash Monster Roll, Mamash Spicy Tuna Roll, Jamaica Roll, Lamb Massman (it’s perfect if you like curry) and the Ahi Tuna.
I urge you to check them out, just call for a reservation first 310-777-8370.

If your family is anything like my family then by the end of the week you probably have lots of leftover fruit on the brink of spoiling. You may have cut melon in your fridge, shriveling peaches in your fruit basket, slightly mushy berries or those half eaten bananas that your kids “needed” to eat. I always feel terrible when I think about tossing this expensive and healthy fruit in the garbage. I started freezing it instead. The cut up melons (canteloupe, honeydew, watermelon) go straight into a zip lock bag in the freezer. The berries get washed and tossed in a bag in the freezer as do the peaches, pears, apples (peel them first). I then use these frozen treats in many different ways. I add them to smoothies for a healthy pick me up, I puree them in the food processor with a little bit of water for a deliciously refreshing fruit icey (my favorite dessert is watermelon puree) or I save them for a warm Shabbat afternoon and throw them into a pitcher of home made Sangria (find the recipe on my website). Enjoy!
